Nikon D300 profile matching broken

Post by naturalturn »

Neat Image Pro+ doesn't seem to be able to match profiles generated from Nikon D300 images. I shoot NEFs which I convert to 16-bit TIFFs using Nikon Capture NX.

I generated noise profiles from 16-bit TIFFs shot at ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and 6400 and put them into the Matching folder. When generating these, I noticed that Neat Image displayed the ISO values of the TIFFs betweeen ISO 200 and 3200 but not 100 or 6400.

With the above profiles, I set matching to require an exact match of camera model and ISO and disregard everything else. Unfortunately, now every D300 image gets matched to the ISO 100 profile in the Matching folder, regardless of the image's ISO. If I remove the ISO 100 profile from the Matching folder, things get weirder still: ISO 200 and 400 get matched correctly, ISO 800 gets matched to ISO 6400, 1600 gets matched correctly, 100 gets matched to 1600, etc. Only if I remove both the ISO 100 and the ISO 6400 profile from the Matching folder do things behave ok, but then of course I have a problem if I have an ISO 100 or 6400 image in a batch job.

It looks like there is some kind of problem in the EXIF data either in those generated profiles or images you are matching. If you send me the profiles and a sample image that NI cannot correctly match to the profiles then I will be able to tell what is wrong and how to fix the problem.

Thank you,
Vlad
