Can't remove noise from bright red car.

Post by andewid »

I seem to not be able to reduce noise from this image of a red car. Image was accidentially taken as a TIFF in the camera but I only have profiles for RAW and JPEG. However none of these, nor the Auto Profile works any good for me.

You can download the full size, losslessly compressed picture from:

I must have done something wrong. I tried the JPEG ISO 100 profile again and did manuall fine-tuning to it. It seem to be a little better now.

The auto-profile gave really severe artifacts! wherre the white highlighs would turn into big blobs of purple and green etc.

The problem with this image is that automatics selects an area with signal clipping. You have to manually select an area that shows no clipping. For example, manually select a flat area of the bumper and click Auto Profile.
Even after that, because the problem is getting an accurate profile from this image, try to increase noise levels (Y and Cr) in filter settings. You will see that increasing these noise levels will make more and more noise elements reduced.
