I just noticed that I've been a NeatImage user for 14 months now. My software registration receipt is dated February 5 2003. The most noticeable improvement over that period of time is the processing speed.
In a thread dated around that time, I said I was seeing about 7 minutes to process a 6-megapixel image. I believe it went up to almost 9 minutes with ultra low frequency pass and sharpening enabled. That was on an 800-MHz P3 laptop with 256MB of RAM.
Today, on a dual 1.8-GHz Opteron workstation with 2 GB of RAM, NeatImage 4.0 churned through 10 6-megapixel ISO 1600 images in about 170 seconds! That's with the high quality, high resolution and luminance sharpening options enabled. So in other words, in 14 months, with a combination of software and hardware improvements, I've seen a 3000% increase in performance (average of 510 seconds to 17 seconds)!!! I can't think of anything else of mine that has become that much better that quickly!
Best $75 I've ever spent.
