NeatImage 4.0 calibration target

Post by taob »

Is there a reason why the on-screen calibration target in 4.0 shows green and magenta patches, whereas the BMP file version is greyscale? This is what I see on my monitor:

This is what the BMP file looks like:

BTW, I am running the latest 4.0 build (after the EXIF and profile matching bugs were fixed earlier today).

The reason is actually quite simple - saving the color ink of the printer.

Ah. heheh. :-) Actually, I've found that colour inkjet printers will still use all available inks, even when printing greyscale images (unless you have a specific mode in your printer driver to only use the black ink). Anyway, I wasn't sure if the magenta and green was intentional.

Is there any advantage to use the colour patches instead of just the grey ones?

Yes, there may be some advantage, in some cases. Color patches may produce a more realistic noise pattern with certain digital cameras and resulting noise profiles could be a bit more accurate in such cases.

Where do you get the color target from? I can only seem to find the black and white one.

Ahh, it's rendered by the program; it's not downloadable ;-)

Thanks.
