I'm new, using Canon FS4000US negative film scanner and looking for guidance on 'grain noise' removal. Is it right to photograph a gradient from 200 down to 50 for each film, eg. Superia 200 ISO, scan it at either 2000 or 4000 and prepare a 'device profile' and use it at 50 to 100% for pretty well everything? Pitfalls? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Tony,
Don't use gradients, use the recommended calibration target.
Otherwise, yes, take photos of the target on different films, then scan at different resolution. This will produce profiles for several combinations of film and scan resolutions and you will then use these profiles to process other images made with the same films and scanned on the same scanner.
