Does "Auto fine tune" degradate image quality?

Post by lightfriend »

Hi NI Team,
after "upgrading" my camera from 10 to 20MP I made the observation that "Auto Fine Tune" strongly degradates the result of the denoised image.
I want to ask if "Auto Fine Tune" does work properly in my case using a EOS 70D.

I prepared noise profiles from the calibration target (100% quality for all isos).
I compared this:
1.: Opening Image/auto match/process/ - perfect result as expected!
2.: Opening Image/auto match/auto fine tune/ process/ - almost unusable (even if the quality indicator is greater than 75%):

lumiance remains completely or become even more apparent due to enabled sharpening.
chrominance: green/red/blue smarties remain in all dark area.

I can truly live with the results of disabled auto fine tune.
But when I want to use smart profiling I cannot disable auto fine tune as stated in the manual:

"Use the Profile > Smart Profile menu item (or press the F5 key).
Smart Profile uses both Auto Profile and Auto Match (with Auto Fine-Tune) to prepare two candidate profiles and then selects the better of two profiles. "

So I have two questions to you:

Is there a way to use smart profile with disabled "auto fine tune"?
Does "Auto fine tune" work properly?

many thanks for your help in advanced

Please kindly gather the noise profiles and test images necessary to reproduce this problem. Please e-mail them to support [at] neatimage.com. We will follow your steps, reproduce your results and find the cause of the problem.

Thank you,
