Opening compressed TIFFs

Post by bpjod »

My catalog of nearly 1000 scanned slides are all saved as LZW compressed 16-bit TIFFs. Now and again I'm going back and improving these photos with Neat Image and I'm really impressed at what an improvement can be had. Trouble is, it's a nuisance having to open and resave the file without the LZW compression before being able to use it in Neat Image.

Along the lines of you don't get what you don't ask for: could you please incorporate the ability to open LZW compressed TIFF images in the future? Are there others who desire this ability too?

Opening compressed Tiffs

Same with me - opening and saving compressed tifs would ease the use of neatimage.

The Unisys patent on LZW is running out in 4 weeks. My suggestion would be to include it into neatimage by then.

Why can't you use the plug-in?

Because I do not use Photoshop as my main image editor

I also store 98% of my images as lossless LZW compressed images.
File sizes ARE reduced substantially.
I would like to add my support for this being a valid option.

My workflow is Nikon NEF --> LZW 8-bit TIFF --> Noise Reduce --> Sharpen

The issue here is that the LZW is *read* but not *written* which I would pay for if it could be made available. I do batches of 500-1000 photos per event and about 60 events per year. If I can cut the file size in half, I will save tons more money that you will require us consumers to eat when you buy the LZW license... PLEASE?

Yes, this idea is already in our development plans. Thank you for giving an additional vote for it.

I'm an idiot. I use CS2 to "smart sharpen" the files after I reduce the noise, which allows me to resave using LZW.
